Small Industrial Estates/ Industrial Parks
After dissolution of West Pakistan Small Industries Handicrafts Development Corporation, Sindh Small Industries & Handicrafts Development Corporation came into being through an Act No. XXVI-1972 of Sindh Government for the development and promotion of small industries in Sindh Province and to promote Sindh’s handicrafts as well on non-commercial basis. Later on words “& Handicrafts Development” were omitted but the aim object is same to alive the crafts – culture of Sindh Province.
This Corporation was also established with the aim to develop & promote Small Industries, to provide necessary infrastructure, to impart training to the youth of the Province in various crafts / trades, to motivate & encourage people of rural areas for setting up of Small Industries, to provide assistance to craftsmen in designing and adaptating in accordance with the market demands, to provide marketing facilities to the craftsmen through SSIC’s handicrafts shops, fairs and exhibitions in local and foreign markets and to undertake such other functions, measures or steps under the directives of the Government.
Only 02 Small Industrial Estates viz: SIE Sukkur and Larkana were inherited from the defunct West Pakistan Small Industries and Handicrafts Development Corporation (WPSIC) but as per commitment and sincere efforts SSIC has established 19 Small Industrial Estates (SIEs), 03 Industrial Parks (IPs) almost in all district headquarters of Sindh Province. At present hundreds of Small Industrial Units of different nature viz Rice, Floor, Ice making, Oil Expelling, Light Engineering, Pickles making, Textile, Concrete Block & Jali making, Cold Storage, Dates Processing Unit, Bakery, Plastic Pipe and other products, CNG Stations etc. are in operation, with the result thousands of job opportunies have been provided to local people and millions of rupees is paid to Government in different type of taxes and utility charges.
